Homelessness on the Rise, SNAP cuts adding pain

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-mayors-homelessness-20131212,0,5321182.story#axzz2nI7Rl3Nk
A new survey says more than 20,000 people are homeless, in LA alone. Over 2,000 of them are under 15.

The SNAP / Food Stamps program is due to be cut by more than $4-billion, and the recent Budget deal by Congress means millions of people who have been unemployed for more than a year will lose their benefits right after Christmas.
So it's about to get a lot worse.

To be faced with a problem I know we can fix, and still be denied the means to even vaguely address it is frustrating to the point of incoherence...

Iowa Students Fight Local Hunger

http://qctimes.com/news/local/education/article_f3058856-9dbd-5b9b-b297-eec126b464ea.html

Students in Iowa have just collected over 520,000lbs of food. Thanks to them, low-income families in the area will have a decent meal every day for about three months.

The Students have been doing this every year since 1986. So the question is this..

Why is it still up to them??
